About Hiking and Healing

Why We Are

Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati (1901-1925)

Bl. Pier Giorgio Frassati (1901–1925) was an Italian layman known for his deep faith, charity, and love for the outdoors. Born into a wealthy family, he dedicated his life to serving the poor while also excelling as a student and mountaineer. A devout Catholic, he was active in social and political causes, advocating for justice and the dignity of the marginalized. He died at the age of 24 from polio, likely contracted from the sick he cared for. Beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1990, he is a patron of young people and outdoor enthusiasts.

Pope John Paul II (1920 – 2005)

Pope John Paul II had a lifelong passion for hiking and the outdoors. As a young priest in Poland, he often took students on mountain hikes, combining physical activity with spiritual discussions. Even as a bishop and later as pope, he continued to escape to the mountains whenever possible, enjoying skiing and trekking in the Italian Alps. His love for nature was deeply tied to his spirituality, seeing the outdoors as a place to encounter God. Despite his demanding role, he maintained his enthusiasm for hiking until his health declined. His deep appreciation for nature influenced his teachings on environmental stewardship and the human connection to creation.

St. Francis of Assisi (1181–1226)

St. Francis of Assisi (1181–1226) had a profound love for nature, seeing all creation as a reflection of God’s beauty and goodness. He viewed animals, plants, and even the elements as his “brothers” and “sisters,” emphasizing the interconnectedness of all living things. His deep spirituality led him to preach to birds, show compassion to animals, and celebrate God’s presence in the natural world. This love for creation is beautifully expressed in his Canticle of the Sun, which praises the sun, moon, wind, and all of nature. His legacy continues to inspire environmental stewardship and care for creation.

Beauty = Truth

Something from Nothing

“God saw all that He had made, and it was very good.” — Genesis 1:31

Science reveals the how of creation—its mechanics, patterns, and processes. But only God reveals the why. When we step into nature, we’re not just walking through landscapes; we’re entering the very domain of the Creator. The stillness, the majesty, the design—it all speaks. All we have to do is listen.

Hiking and Healing exists to help us tune our hearts to that voice. Through every step on the trail, we draw closer to the Spirit of God.

All are welcome.

For now, we walk in the light of the Christian faith—rooted in the Holy Scriptures (books 1–73). Our faith shapes our path, our joy, and our purpose.

In time, we hope to walk with brothers and sisters of all faiths—creating a space where anyone seeking the Divine through creation is welcomed with open arms.

What is Hiking and Healing?

Hiking and Healing is a Christ-centered journey that blends the beauty of nature with the power of spiritual renewal. Each step becomes an act of worship—each trail, a path toward deeper connection with God, community, and self.

How does Hiking and Healing work?

We gather in the natural beauty of God’s creation to walk, pray, and reconnect with the Divine. We share a simple meal together, offer mutual encouragement, and create space for spiritual healing. Rooted in Christian fellowship and guided by the Holy Spirit, our journeys are about lifting one another up in love—and letting nature be the sanctuary where God meets us.

Where are the hikes organized?

Our hikes take place in carefully chosen locations—places of natural beauty and tranquility where God’s presence is felt deeply. We explore a variety of trails, from more challenging paths to gentle, accessible routes that welcome those with physical limitations. Each destination is selected to inspire spiritual healing, reflection, and awe in the heart of creation.
